The 1978/2001 Hatteras 53' Express "Fin Addict" is an impressive innovative express fishing vessel. She was completely redesigned, rebuilt, and retrofitted from the hull up in 2001 by Tom Slane. The Fin Addict is powered by twin New Caterpillar C-12.9 fourstroke inline 6 cylinder fresh water cooled diesel engines rated at 1000 mhp each. Her cabin provides a single forward master berth, a mid cabin bunk berth, and a spacious salon and galley area. The express design provides an exceptional accommodating spacious helm station and fishing cockpit. She is also outfitted with a tuna tower. The opportunity cost of ownership has been minimized. With new engines having complete warranty and fresh paint, two of the most expensive items in retrofitting a boat, already taken care of, you can leave the doubt behind, throw your gear on and confidently forge ahead pursuing new offshore adventures!
Tom Slane is the son of Willis Slane who founded and incorporated Hatteras Yachts in 1959 and located the business in High Point, North Carolina. In 1984 Tom started Slane Marine and began restoring and refitting vessels to bring them up to “State of the Art”. As one would expect based on his time growing in the Hatteras factory and participating in every aspect of the build process, he amassed a wealth of know how and predominately transformed Hatteras Yachts vessels. These have come to be known as Slane Marine Conversions. The Fin-Addict started its life as a 53’ Convertible and in 2001 completed this conversion to a 53’ Express.
This unique conversion gives this 53’ a massive cockpit and huge bridge deck. The elevated and forward positioned helm station allows ample visibility both fore & aft, and underway.
The rear and port side of the bridge deck has an “L” shaped seating arrangement with storage beneath. There is also seating along the starboard side along with the cabin entrance.
As you entered the cabin there is a dinette with seating for five and a complete galley to port. Forward the galley on the port side is the day ahead with a large stand up shower, sink and vanity. Mowing forward along the port side is the guest stateroom with over under bunks.
Forward in the v-berth is the primary stateroom with double bed and en suite head. There is a large amount of storage throughout the vessel with a multitude of cabinets and closets.
