2010 Devlin Godzilla 25 Mini Tug
Boat construction and interior design by Larkin Boat Company.
The Coot is one of the most unique, recognizable, and beautiful boats on Lake Washington and the Puget Sound. It was lovingly hand-built by an accomplished boat builder, Tom Larkin, who built it for pleasure, accessibility, safety, easy maintenance, and good mileage.
It is a perfect boat for a couple in love, as the bed is full size and the seats are close. It is possible to have a whisper conversation when the boat is running at full speed. It is an excellent 4 season boat for Lake Union and 3 season boat for the Puget Sound. The heater keeps it warm in winter. The vents prevent mold and keep it airy in the summer. It is a fun and safe boat for children.
A Mini Tug that is large enough to allow cruising on the waters of Puget Sound or even up into BC waters. The builder had in fact taken Coot all the way to Princess Louisa Inlet, Victoria, and Vancouver BC during a 30 day sail! Powered by an economical 60hp Honda o/b and hull cruising speed of around 6mph the mpg is incredibly high at around 8nm per gallon. Hull construction is Sam Devlin's (hull designer) "stitch and glue" method of making hulls. The hull marine-grade plywood that is covered with epoxy, fiberglass, and paint thus not a traditional wood outer surface which requires a massive amount of up keep.
The seats flip up to reveal the galley: A sink with cold water and a one propane burner stove. Beneath the sink and stove is a storage cabinet for food, cooking and eating utensils. The storage cabinet door opens downward, creating a table at the right height so that when you sit on the bed, you have a stable surface for food preparation and eating.
There is a dinghy for exploring narrow passages or rowing to shore after anchoring. It is launched and retrieved with an easy 3-part tackle. There is a boat ladder for swimming and climbing aboard afterwards. There is a discrete head (flush toilet) in the forecabin.
From the deck you can take photos of beautiful sunsets, ducks, birds, turtles, climb to the cabin top and sunbathe, or sit in the bow area and watch fireworks.
The Coot is for Sale due to the untimely death of its captain, owner, and builder Thomas Larkin.
