Interior Accommodations and Layout
Note: The interior spaces of North Wind carry headroom of 6’ 6” thu-out the boat. Furthest forward is the chain locker area which is open to the forward cabin.
Forward cabin area has berthing for three.
In addition to a standard two berth V-berth arrangement, there is a pipe berth located above and forward of the port V-berth.
There is bin storage below the V-berths and also drawers located under the V-berth. Natural lighting and ventilation is provided to the forward cabin area by a large opening overhead hatch and by a round opening port located in the forward cabin side. Additional lighting is supplied by two reading lamps located at the heads of the berthing space.
There are shelves located above and outboard of the berthing space.
A passageway to the main cabin area runs aft from the forward cabin.
To starboard of the passageway is a large hanging locker and to port is the head compartment.
The main cabin includes the main salon and galley areas.
The main salon has two settees with Concordia style seat backs which fold down to provide for comfortable sea berths when underway.
Storage cabinets and shelves are located outboard of the settees.
A drop leaf dining table located on centerline provides comfortable dining space for a large crew.
Aft of the main salon to both port and starboard of the companionway are the galley areas.
To port is a large ice box set under-counter with storage shelves and racks outboard. To starboard (just aft of the settee) is located a cast iron wood/coal stove for cooking and heating.
Aft and outboard of the stove are storage shelves and racks.
Also aft of the stove is the stainless steel galley sink and additional counter space Natural lighting and ventilation is provided by two large opening overhead hatches (forward and main cabins) and by ports (both fixed and opening) in the cabin sides. Additional ventilation is supplied by two dorade vents in the main cabin (aft).
Additional lighting is supplied by the 12 volt lighting system with reading lamps, overhead dome lights and side lights in the forward cabin, main cabin and head area
Interior lighting is LED and CFL energy efficient lighting.
The interior spaces of North Wind are painted white and accented by varnished wood trim.
Cushion covers are red and the wide board cabin sole is painted a light gray.

Deck, cabin and cockpit surfaces are of marine plywood over fir deck beams, carlins and other structural members.
Deck and cabin top are overlaid with fiberglass cloth set in epoxy resins and painted an Off-White color
Cabin sides are of solid mahogany with a painted exterior surface matching the deck, cockpit and cabin top

Originally cutter rigged North Wind’s sail plan was reconfigured in 2000 to a ketch rig.
Main mast is fractionally rigged, single spreader, aluminum construction painted White
Main mast standing rigging (shrouds and stays) is of stainless steel 1x19 wire with bronze turnbuckle adjusters at lower ends of shrouds and split backstay.
Main mast is stepped on deck with a bronze compression post located below decks under the mast step.
Main boom is of aluminum construction painted White
Mizzen mast is of aluminum construction painted White.
Mizzen mast standing rigging is of stainless steel 1 x 19 wire with bronze turnbuckles. Mizzen boom is of aluminum construction painted White NOTE: Mizzen mast repainted (Awlgrip) winter 2016-17
