Smooth manoeuvres and sail handling
The cockpit is long and wide, enabling the helmsman and tactician to sit well behind the mainsail track with a clear view both of the deck and beyond the boat. In front of the track there is ample room for the crew to work, enabling slick boat handling during racing.
However, the Xp 33 is also a dual-purpose performer, with moulded toerails, long coach roof port-lights, cockpit lockers, and an anchor storage compartment which incorporates a platform for a small electric windlass (a removable anchor fitting, electric winch, chain and anchor are available as optional extras).
The coach roof gives the Xp 33 an elegant profile, with halyard winches and swivel jammers on either side of the companionway. Optional inhaulers can be adjusted via a camcleat line at the centerline, while the mainsheet features a block and tackle system.
High quality deck gear packages can be selected, including all the fittings required for asymmetric sailing, or a conventional spinnaker system.

Power meets performance for pure enjoyment
In designing the Xp 33 hull, our main focus was on creating a yacht with fantastic all-round performance, in contrast to many modern sportboats which rely heavily on downwind performance in a breeze. Within its very first season, the race results demonstrated that the Xp 33 is seriously quick, with overall victories under international rating systems.
The design process of the Xp 33 involved intensive testing of different hull shapes using Velocity Prediction Programs, as well as anticipated IRC and ORC ratings. The final Xp 33 hull form was the best performer all round in windspeeds of 5-20 knots, with a wide and powerful transom combined with maximum waterline length and a low freeboard. The shape is consistent with the race-winning Xp family, but adjusted to suit her lighter displacement.
When sailing upright in light airs mode the Xp 33 has narrow, low-resistance waterlines to slip through the water in even faint breezes. As she heels, she gains stability thanks to her increased waterline length, wide stern and high ballast to weight ratio,
for high performance sailing in heavy airs, on reaching angles and under the generous asymmetric spinnaker.
The perfection of simplicity
The Xp 33 is unique among the Xperformance line in featuring a retractable carbon bowsprit for superb ease of sail handling and downwind enjoyment, flying a powerful asymmetric spinnaker of 109m 2 (race version) or 93m 2 (cruising chute).
The bowsprit is engineered in-house by the X-Yachts design team and made from high strength and stiffness filament-wound carbon fibres by world-leading spar manufacturers utilising the very latest computer-controlled techniques.
The bowsprit is extended by a simple launch line led back to the cockpit, and is retracted when the spinnaker is dropped and the tack line pulled back in. The asymmetric spinnaker configuration makes the Xp 33 very versatile for sailing short-handed or with a less experienced crew. For additional simplicity of sail control an optional under-deck furling headstay drum is available to accommodate a vertically battened jib.
The Xp 33 may also carry a symmetrical spinnaker pole for optimum handicap rating and sail selection on
windward/leeward racecourses.
Control at your fingertips
The Xp 33 cockpit layout and steering system is special for a yacht of this type.
The new breed of very wide transom sportsboats often have twin rudder blades, or a single rudder placed relatively far forward,
in order to ensure that the rudder does not ventilate air as the boat heels over. For the same reason the Xp 33 rudder blades are also situated forward. However, to ensure that the helmsman and tiller are not positioned in the main crew working area of the cockpit, we designed a special linkage system to run underneath the cockpit sole, which allows the tiller to be positioned further aft.
The result is a highly functional cockpit and steering position, with the helmsman benefitting from plenty of room aft of the mainsheet track and a perfect view forward.
Perfect trim and precise adjustment
As with all the Xperformance models, the Xp 33 was designed from the outset with two rig choices, a standard alloy mast or an optional higher-aspect carbon mast and boom. Both were developed in close co-operation with leading rig development companies and sailmakers, for strength, low-windage and exceptional control.
In order to enjoy perfect sail trim, X-Yachts masts and rigging are designed so they can be easily and precisely adjusted, and with sufficient stiffness to maintain that shape for repeatable, fast sail settings. A rig with too much flex and stretch will ‘pump’, particularly when sailing upwind in waves, which means both the headsail and main will change shapes and lose optimum trim. Discontinuous rod rigging is fitted as standard for efficient and reliable tuning, low windage, and reduced weight aloft.
Precision-engineered foils
The foils of every Xp model are designed in-house, ensuring the Xp 33 rudder is a custom fit for the hull shape, underwater profile and sail plan. The deep rudder is designed for optimum ‘grip’ and maximum ‘feel’, giving responsive, reliable handling in all conditions and on all points of sail, and is constructed using high quality alloy stocks for a slim profile offering reduced resistance and underwater drag.
The Xp 33 features a cast iron keel fin with lead ‘T’ bulb, and a draft of 1.90 metres. When the X-Yachts antifouling service is specified, the keel is then encapsulated in a vacuum-infused epoxy E-glass layer for a hydrodynamic finish that prevents corrosion and creates a perfectly symmetrical, smooth section. The lead ‘T’ bulb greatly reduces drag in comparison to the industry standard cast iron construction, which requires a greater volume in order to achieve the same centre of gravity.
Interior
The Xp 33 features a highly functional and adaptable three-cabin layout, with removable double berths in the forward cabin and saloon upper cupboards (both optional) for a rapid transition from comfortable cruising to lightweight mode.
Overnight onboard in comfort
The Xp 33 features three double cabins, giving ample provision for crew or friends and family to stay aboard during cruising trips or regattas. The forward berth can be quickly and simply removed to create a functional sail handling area in the spacious forepeak, while twin wardrobes provide convenient storage. There is a single heads with shower forward.
Minimalist style, maximum functionality
The Xp 33 combines superb functionality with pared-back style. Technical teak and crisp white composites give a contemporary look, while deck hatches and stylish LED and halogen lighting create a pleasant and bright space. The upholstery is offered in welcoming and durable Arapan Blue fabric.
The modular interior is highly adaptable, and the optional saloon upper cupboards (above the freeboard shelves and outboard
of the saloon sofas) may be removed or fitted in minutes for rapid race preparation. The saloon table is also removable for ease of crew movement and sail handling, and once removed its stainless steel tubular base forms a secure handhold for safe working down below.
Practical benefits
The highly practical galley area includes a GRP worktop, stainless steel sink, and room for either a gimballed two-burner cooker or optional oven with twin gas burners. The gas storage locker is located underneath the cockpit floor with access via two cockpit floor hatches.
Charting your course
A fixed forward-facing navigation station accommodates all the Xp 33 communication and navigation equipment, with an optional wooden housing for a chart plotter also available.
Adaptable accommodation
The two aft cabins both offer double bunks, which can be divided by an optional lee-cloth, with additional storage incorporated beneath each berth.
Intelligent systems
Using the very latest 3D design programs, X-Yachts designers, engineers and technicians have been able to create a yacht where no space is wasted. The systems of the Xp 33 might be concealed from view, but they were incorporated into the yacht’s design and construction planning from the very outset. Every cable and pipe run is fully modeled in 3D to ensure that the system can be simply installed – and easily accessed for servicing at a later date.
Piping for all the water systems on board run in dedicated service trays and channels. Custom-built high volume tanks for diesel fuel and water maximise the space usage underneath the saloon berths, and are also designed to optimise weight distribution by ensuring the fluids are carried low down in the hull.
Peace of mind
The 12V electrical system is designed using efficient cable runs to reduce transmission losses, with all cabling terminated
behind a convenient main electrical panel in the saloon.
The high-specification electronics include an optional 220V AC shore power system, which is capable of powering a 15-litre water heater. The switchboard is custom-designed with circuit breakers, and the circuits comprise tinned marine cable for corrosion resistance. The high quality three-stage battery charger utilises AGM (Absorption Glass Mat) batteries for low maintenance.
Comfort features include stylish halogen and LED interior lighting, with a choice of media and navigation system options
also available.
Smooth operation
A 20hp saildrive engine is fitted as standard. The GRP engine compartment is well insulated, and can be completely removed at the front for maximum access, ensuring the key service points of impeller, oil and seawater restrainer are easily reached.
The saildrive engines with folding propeller are carefully fitted with the engine ‘S’ struts faired into the hull using a rigid gasket for reliability and reduced drag underwater.
