Nathanael Herreshoff designed COQUINA for his own use in the winter of 1889, as an improvement on RIVIERA, the boat he had built in Nice, France in 1874 for his trip along the Mediterranean coast, through the rivers and canals of Europe and later sailed out of his home in Bristol R.I.
In 2005 Maynard Bray and Doug Hylan created new drawings from Herreshoff Archives to help builders reproduce the 17ft sailing beauty COQUINA. This hand crafted reproduction of the classic was built using modern techniques and the highest quality materials, it features a red cedar hull, spruce masts, bubinga plywood decking and dacron sails.
