The Sun Odyssey 50DS is a fast cruising sailboat with spectacular use of space and all the natural light and modern finishes that make her compare to much newer vessels at nearly twice the price. The 50DS stands out with its huge cockpit and 6’5” headroom down below.
This powerful ocean-going sailing yacht was designed by famous naval architect Philippe Briand to meet Category A ocean standards for winds exceeding force 8 on the Beaufort scale and waves of 13 feet or more. She is fast under power, thanks to her upgraded 110-horsepower Yanmar turbo diesel engine. She has a deep fin keel with a heavy cast iron elongated bulb, giving her great speed and maneuverability as well as amazing seakeeping characteristics that will make you feel safe and secure, even when conditions are less than kind. Her large rudder and fin keel make her incredibly maneuverable in tight spaces and easy to handle with a one or two-person crew.
“Maillot Jaune” is equipped perfectly for living aboard and cruising the Pacific Northwest. Her hydronic heating system keeps the boat warm and dry throughout the year. Her full cockpit enclosure with 6’5” headroom keeps you out of the elements both at sea and at the dock.
Down below, this incredible yacht can convert the large forward stateroom into two staterooms in less than 10 minutes, giving you a three-stateroom, three-head yacht that sleeps 6 adults comfortably. When configured with two staterooms, the huge forward stateroom has symmetric his-and-hers heads, while the large aft stateroom includes a private head with full shower stall.
“Maillot Jaune” is an ideal live-aboard with plenty of room for storage throughout the boat and a sail locker big enough for four full-size bicycles sealed away in the bow with a watertight hatch.
This one-owner vessel has been maintained by a pilot who takes care of the machinery as if his life depended on it. The engine compartment is spotless, and with nearly 500 hours it is hard to tell the diesel engine has been used.
