This well maintained Beneteau 323 hits the mark. Designer Groupe Finot produced a design that not only performs well but features a voluminous interior not often found in a boat of this size. Her cockpit is spacious and comfortable with good on-deck storage space, easy access to a wide swimstep and all sail controls led aft. Below decks, overhead skylights provide terrific natural light. Her aft cabin is literally queen sized and a well-conceived single head provides a shower with bench seat.
Low hours on Yanmar diesel – new Iversen dodger – Frigoboat 12v refrigeration – Smartplug shore power inlet – Lewmar anchor windlass
From the companionway, three easy steps lead you below. GAYLE features a two cabin, one head layout. Using the settees as single berths, she will comfortably sleep up to 6 people. Headroom in the salon is 6’2”. Cherry stained mahogany wood combined with a teak and holly style cabin sole provide warmth while the white overhead and ceiling keep the atmosphere bright. Two overhead skylights in the salon, hull windows and ample hatches and port light add good lighting and ventilation.
Starting forward is the V-berth. The berth measures 6’ 10” long with the insert installed at the head of the bed. Shelves run the length of the cabin to port and starboard along the hull sides. A switched overhead light and two reading light provide illumination.
The salon is located aft. Straight settees run to port and starboard. The drop leaf table is centered in the cabin. This table has bottle storage in the center and with drop leaves there is seating for up to six. The settee cushions lift for storage below. Above the settees are shelves and a cabinet. A Lewmar opening hatch, port lights, skylights and hull windows provide excellent natural light to this space. Overhead and reading lights are installed.
The navigation station is located at the aft end of the starboard settee. The table top lifts for storage below. Shelving gives space for manuals and books. The AC and DC breaker panels are located here as well as the VHF and stereo receiver.
Aft of the nav table is a door that leads into the head. We have seen smaller heads on much larger boats – this space is very well conceived. The Jabsco manual head faces forward at the aft end of the compartment. The holding tank for the head is located in the lazarette just aft of this room. The faucet for the single sink pulls out and serves as the shower. There is ample space and a bench seat at the forward part of this compartment to take a shower. Aft next to the toilet is a hanging area for wet gear. There is storage under the sink and in two large shelves aft of the head. The entire area is finished in white molded surfaces and is easy to maintain.
The L-shaped galley is located at the aft end of the salon to port. The galley counter tops are finished in white laminate. The large stainless steel sink is served by pressure water faucet with hot and cold water. There is a top loading refrigerator and two burner propane stove/oven. Storage can be found in cabinets above and outboard of the stove and fridge for plates and cups etc. A drawer gives space for eating utensils. Under the sink is a large storage space for a trash bin and any additional galley equipment.
A door aft of the galley opens into the quarter berth. This cabin works well as the master stateroom with a large queen size berth and good size hanging locker. Three opening portlights provide light and ventilation. Switched overhead lights and a reading light supplement with additional lighting. Storage can be found under the ample berth along with access to the propeller shaft, muffler and engine start battery.
