During the prohibition era of the 1920's, successful downeast rumrunners used boats built by -- among others -- the legendary Will Frost. Their wit, and the characteristics of their vessels, allowed them to elude the government's revenue cutters. Rumery's 36 pays homage to these elegant, fast, and seaworthy designs of Will Frost. The sleek lines of the torpedo stern and the sculptural smoothness below the waterline makes the Rumery's 36 an extremely efficient hull form and very easy to push through the water. The hull slices through the water: "As you give it throttle, it goes faster and faster, but there's no wake...it runs cleanly and it never pounds." (Bob Stephens, Brooklin Boat Yard, quoted in WOODENBOAT issue #170 Jan/Feb 2003)
Below, ATINA has a herreshoff-style interior with white bulkheads and varnished hardwood trim. (4) opening window ports and an overhead hatch provide plenty of natural light and ventilation. The cabin sole is teak decking. Walking through the companionway, to starboard is an L-shaped settee, which converts into a berth with storage outboard and underneath. To port is a galley with insulated icebox, stainless stink with water pressure, and ORIGO microwave. Forward of the Settee is a head with privacy door and sink vanity. Furthest forward is a V-berth. Two reading lamps port/starboard provide light and access to the anchor locker is forward.
The sociable cockpit has a U-shaped seating aft for six and plenty of space to walk about. Underneath the seating is storage for fenders, dock lines, and safety gear. The cockpit sole is teak running forward to the helm. A beautifully crafted varnished windshield protects the helmsmen from the elements and has electric windshield wipers. Minimal bow rise while at cruise maintains the excellent visibility for the helmsmen.
Sliding the insulated engine box aft gives you excellent access to all sides of the engine for easy servicing.
