The Rob Humphreys Oyster 72 promises to be a bluewater cruiser with winning ways. Continuing in the Oyster Deck Saloon tradition, the 72 fits between the 66 and 82 models to providing a replacement for the very successful Holman & Pye Oyster 68/70 series. The combination of Rob Humpreys rig, hull lines and styling, plus the arrangements plan from the Oyster Design Team, have created a yacht with a stunning outboard profile with lots of curves. Her hull has been optimised to provide generous beam, not just amidships but both forward and aft helping create a really spacious interior. A soft entry for her forward sections and reasonably generous freeboard will help make the 72 dry in a seaway. A low centre of gravity modified bulb keel, linked with a stable hull form give the 72 a good righting moment, contributing to comfortable seakeeping. Good looks combine with practical features such as the well known ergonomically designed cockpit first developed in conjunction with Loughborough Universities ergonomics Department for the Oyster 56, at the time a world first. The split cockpit configuration places winches and other sailing controls adjacent to the steering cockpit. This in turn keeps the large forward cockpit area clear for guests. The twin wheel configuration provides the ideal helm position on either tack upright or heeled, and makes for easier docking. A side benefit of this arrangement is the easy deck level walk-through from the stern deck to both cockpit areas.
