The Offshore 48 Yachtfisher is an extremely popular motor yacht with a modified V-hull sporting (2) separated staterooms, great salon with access to the covered aft deck and only steps down to the cockpit. With durable Twin CAT 3208 TA, 375 HP engines and a newer (9) KW Northern Lights Generator, 'Copacetic' is super clean and ready for cruising.
The Offshore 48 Yachtfisher design features a generous beam and finely veed and deep forefoot that gradually tapers to a 12-degree deadrise at the transom. This design produces a hull that is quick to get on plane and knifes cleanly through waves and chop throughout the speed range. The craft's standard exterior includes two tone non-skid decks as well as window frames, doors and hatches made of gelcoated fiberglass so they can't corrode like aluminum or rot like wood. Moreover, the cockpit contains a fresh water shower in a molded FRP cabinet . Below deck, the 48 features quality hand-rubbed, satin finish Burmese teak cabinetry. The salon, staterooms, heads, and galley are built with attention to detail that Offshore has been known for since 1948.
The 3208 is recognized by boat owners as the standard in reliability and serviceability. Over the years, this compact engine has maintained its lead by establishing even higher levels of power and durability...while dropping fuel and operating costs to their lowest levels.
Commanding Attention Without Requiring It!
Power to fly. Just a touch of the throttles and these 636 cu in (10.4 L) V8's move you out - fast.
Top fuel efficiency - no matter what the load. At full load, the 375hp TA model burns just 21.1 gallons of fuel per hour per engine.. back off 400 rpm and she uses just 12.1 gph. per engine.
Quiet, clean burning. With the four-stroke cycle design, a direct injection fuel system, water-cooled manifolds, and turbocharging, the 3208 rates top marks for passenger comfort.
A longer stretch to overhaul. The unique strength of the 3208 engine design coupled with its cool operation give you long life to overhaul.
No wasted time on maintenance. Spin-on fuel and lube filters, plus easily accessible components, reduce and simplify routine maintenance.
Rebuild it - then rebuild it again. With a re-borable block, re-grindable crankshaft, and rebuildable turbo-charger and water pumps, this engine is designed to be rebuilt.
Get more back when you trade up. Cat 3208-powered boats traditionally command a higher trade-in than comparable gasoline or other diesel- powered boats.
Adjustment-Free Fuel System for Peak Efficiency Caterpillar's adjustment-free fuel system is a concept proven as a fuel save in over two million Caterpillar Engines. And continual refining of this system gives today's rule-conscious user optimum efficiency. Each engine cylinder uses a permanently set injection pump for consistent fuel use without calibration or balancing. Fuel nozzle replacement is as easy as changing a spark plug. With automatic timing advance, fuel injection varies with rpm change for good fuel control. And shutdown is instantaneous.. the solenoid actuates the fuel metering sleeve to stop fuel delivery.
The four cycle or four stroke diesel powered Caterpillar 3208TA is a vee configurated 8 cylinder engine that is turbo charged and aftercooled and produces 375 brake horsepower at 2800 revolutions per minute. With a bore of 4.5" and a stroke of 5.0" the displacement is 636 cubic inches or 10.4 liters. The compression ratio is 15.5:1 the freshwater cooling capacity is 14.8 gallons, the lube oil capacity is 4 gallons and the approximate dry weight is 2080 lbs per engine.
The marine reduction gear is located in the drive train aft of the engines. As the name implies, the purpose of the reduction gear is to reduce the RPM (revolutions per minute) of the propeller shaft to a more efficient speed for use by the propeller. The gear also provides forward, neutral and reverse capabilities through a series of gears and clutches. the gear ratio is 1.97:1
The freshwater cooling system on the Bertram 37 is a closed system. Coolant, a mixture of low silicate diesel anti-freeze, or condtioned automotive anti-freeze and water is circulated throughout the engine and to a heat exchanger. Seawater is picked up under the boat, strained through the large hull-mounted seawater strainers, and passed through the other side of the heat exchanger removing the heat from the engine coolant. The seawater is then dumped into the exhaust at the injection elbow located on the engine and flows overboard with the exhaust.
