Though not well known in the US, Maxi has a great reputation in Europe for building a very solid boat. The company was founded in the early 1970s and is still building sophisticated performance-oriented sail boats today; this is a rare opportunity to see one for yourself. They are exactly what you would expect from vessels designed and built in Sweden: clean and understated, with no-nonsense lines and a simple elegance down below with only the best components used throughout.
The Maxi 108 is an interesting "3/4 aft" cockpit configuration--not quite aft, not quite center, there are nevertheless two companionways leading below. This isn't an unusual design for larger boats (all the Hallberg-Rasseys, also built in Sweden, are configured like this), but is hard to pull off on a 36 footer!
Maxi built almost 200 of the 108s and this particular example is in EXCELLANT condition; she shows much newer than her actual age. If you're in the market for a classic European boat built largely by hand and showing bristol, Maxi is a must-see.
Also note she's lying in a potentially transferable Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip; there's a waiting list to get into the marina here so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage...

Accommodations and Layout
Triangle-shaped double berth forward with custom innerspring mattress, large overhead hatch and ample stowage. Aft ro salon with inline galley port side, raised C-shaped dinette across starboard. Continue aft to head on port side, centerline companionway with nav table starboard. Aft of nav table is LONG sea berth in companionway aft to stateroom with second companionway to cockpit.
Note interior is unblemished teak throughout, soft goods have been tastefully renewed, 6'2 headroom throughout.
Galley and Head
Double stainless steel sinks with hot/cold pressure water (hot water heater 110V and engine fired), two burner propane stove with oven, 110V refrigerated ice box. Manual pump head, handheld shower.
Electronics and Navigation Equipment
Raytheon SL70 radar mounted on custom stainless steel pole aft of cockpit, Autohelm ST4000 autopilot, Raytheon depthsounder, Autohelm knotmeter, Sitex VHF radio, binnacle mounted magnetic compass; most electronics have been renewed. AM/FM/CD stereo with KLH speakers.
110V AC / 12V DC. Thirty amp shorepower service, battery charger and inverter, three batteries in two banks.
Sails and Rigging
Keel-stepped double spreader aluminum mast, Dacron main sail with LazyJacks, 110% jib, 150% jib, spinnaker and pole, Hood roller furler (2001), recent Garhauer rigid bomvang, recent Harken mainsheet with traveller, 1x19 stainless steel standing rigging, renewed running rigging with all lines lead aft thru labeled rope clutches.
Deck and Hull
FRP hull with fin keel and skeg-hung rudder, cored decks, substantial rubber rub rail around entire hull (which probably helps explain how the hull remained scratch and ding and scratch free all these years!). Bottom bliter-free and last painted 03/04. Large, comfortable cockpit with high coamings and teak inserts on sole, nice drop leaf cockpit table.
Stainless steel bow pulpit, stainless steel stanchions with double lifelines, heavy duty dodger (installed 2003), stern pulpit with integral "catbird seats".
Danforth anchor on bow roller with chain (50') and line (150') rode, manual windlass.
Mechanical Equipment and Engine Details
Two cylinder Volvo diesel with sail drive; vessel's never been cruised, engine's estimated to have well under 1,000 hours clocked and runs like a top. Wheel cable and quadrant steering with emergency tiller. Electric and manual bilge pumps.
