Freedom Yachts(now out of business) was the maker of the Freedom 28. Garry Hoyt, a champion sailor created the unstayed rig to give "freedom" from the inefficient sail shapes of traditional sloop rigs as well as to give "freedom" from the compression and maintenance issues associated with standing rigging. The masts are made of carbon fiberand are set well forward on the boat.A cat-ketch is a sailboatthat is rigged as both a catboatand a ketch. Specifically, there is larger mast stepped at the very bow, and a smaller mast further aft. It is different from a standard ketch rig because there is no jib, and the foremost mast is further forward than most ketches.

This boat is very roomy for a 28’ boat. The boat had a lot of work done to it in the early 2000 time frame, and was re-powered in 1998. There is need of electronics up grade for wind, speed, depth instruments but the boat has “Good Bones” and has been used extensively to teach young sailors through the IL Rangers Support Foundation. They have it priced to sell quickly and proceeds go to benefit the foundation for future charitable causes. All offers will be presented.
