DEERFOOT is a class leading performance cruiser. She is ready to take you on your next coastal adventure, Baja or beyond. She is designed for double handed sailing. She was built in 1980 by Salthouse Brothers Boatworks in Auckland, New Zealand. She is a Doug Peterson and Steve Dashew design. The DEERFOOT is special as she was built with a high standard of care, for Stanley Dashew the father of Steve Dashew.
Since her commissioning, she's been well maintained with major retrofits occurring in 2000, 2004 and 2008
In 2000 a new Yanmar diesel was installed which now has 950 hours, and a the Northern Lights Generator with 568 hours on it. A unique feature for this Deerfoot is the location of the Motor, Generator and Refrigeration which is in an Aft Lazerette, the boat is actually powered by a hydraulic pump which is attached to the engine which powers the volvo speed gear by eaton hydraulic motor which is the bilge; which drives a traditional shaft and 3 blade 22 inch maxprop feathering propeller. The folding propeller aids in the overall performance of the DEERFOOT weather motoring, motor sailing or sailing.
In 2004 the current owner added a new Carbon mast and boom by Hall Spars, new navtec rod standing rigging, and new sails. During the process the mast height was increased. The revised sail plan includes a furling Code Zero reaching sail with continuous line furling.
The main and jib are from north sails and were purchased in 2005.
In 2008 retrofit included a revision in the electronics and additions to the sail inventory as well as a new large cockpit Bimini.
The DEERFOOTS hull is fiberglass with one-inch balsa core, Kauri-timer floors are heavily glassed into the bottom at 18 inch centers and 6.2 gunwales are glassed around the sheer and 8x1.5 inch shelves are bolted to the gunwales. Marine plywood bulkheads are glassed directly to the hull and four 20x2 kauri girders are glassed into the floor to make an egg-crate reinforcement to take the load of the rig and fin keel. A conventional frame deck is bolted to the shelves. The fin keel is a hollow steel fabrication with 12,000 lbs. of lead poured it also incorporates a fuel tank.
Starting forward of the water tight bulkhead is a huge storage area with access from the deck, this is an ideal garage to store all of your off wind sails and gear, just behind the bulkhead is a head with vanity privacy door. Next aft are two double berths to port and starboard that can be enclosed, down the starboard side are three large hanging lockers that flow into the salon and office area. Across and to port from the lockers is an upper and lower berth stateroom with an enclosed head, continuing aft we walk into the salon with a U shaped settee to starboard, teak cabin sole, large salon table, and a straight settee to port, the salon is trimmed with New Zealand Kauri lumber, offers large windows that provide for a 360 degree view, next aft and to port is a U shaped Galley, with a Force 10 three burner stove/oven, a Kenmore microwave, and two deep stainless steel sinks, which are perfect for large voyages, she offers hot and cold running water, a large refrigerator, with access from the top and from the front offering easy access when under weigh, there is more then enough counter space, across from galley is the Nav station, and aft of the Nav Station is the owners stateroom with a queen sized bed and full private head and shower.
The DEERFOOT offers luxury, comfort and sea worthy performance.
