The CAL 2-46 was conceived by Bill Lapworth to be large and comfortable to cruise the world, small enough for a couple to handle, to have gentle motion at sea, shallow draft and a good turn of speed both under sail and power. CAL built this vessel and she has filled all of these requirements without compromise.
Toucan is an outstanding example of the CAL 2-46. She will take you anywhere in unequaled comfort and safety. She can be a live aboard or long term cruiser that really can go anywhere! She has a range of up to 1800 miles of motoring with her large fuel tanks and efficient engine. She is solid and comfortable! With her proven off-shore pedigree, her sister ships can be found all, over the world. So, go around the world, around the Caribbean, or (with only 5’ draft) cruise around Florida and the Bahamas!
She has a very roomy main saloon that offers 270 degree panoramic view from your living room in the air conditioned comfort of the pilothouse. These extra-large windows (heavy duty glass set in aluminum frames) let in great light and keep the space fresh. Two sleeping cabins and two heads would allow two couples to travel with some privacy or one couple with plenty of storage. A lot of good thought has gone into all aspects of this vessel both in choice of equipment and well-conceived systems.
Sloop rigged with the galley down this one is unique to the market. The hull was initially laid in the mid-1970s, but she was finished and commissioned in 1980.
She is loaded with lots of extras! Her new solar power system keeps the batteries topped off when on the mooring or hook. "Third lung" diving rig complete with 2 regulators, diving masks and fins, complete inventory of spares and tools, and a cordless Wenchright eclectic wench handle for effortless sail handling.

Entering through the center cockpit, down the companion way, a spacious and well lit saloon has a similar feel to being on a catamaran. The very open main living area has the traditional nav station immediately on the port side with a settee forward. Immediately to starboard is a large dropdown refrigerator and a deep freezer. Forward on the starboard side is the "L" shaped dinning area with table that drops down to make a double berth when needed. Forward and on both port and starboard sides, very large heavy duty glass windows set in aluminum frames make the pilot house a comfortable friendly place.
Forward of the main saloon is a head on the starboard side (currently used for storage, toilet removed), large hanging locker on port side that make a transition into the large V-berth.
Going aft from the main saloon on the starboard side of the companion way, steps lead down to a very large galley in terms of counter space and storage. Continuing r aft, with the second head on the port side, a large hanging locker on the starboard side.
The aft cabin has a convertible settee/bunk with a large amount of storage on the starboard side. To the port side, the master bunk runs lengthwise along the cabin with numerous drawers and lots of storage.
Access to the large stand-up engine room is through the aft head and the cockpit through the portside hatch. Easy access to engines and all systems simplifies service.
The galley runs on the starboard side about mid-ship. The drop-in freezer and drop-in fridge with side access door are upstairs on the starboard side of the main saloon. Two steps down and aft, the galley proper has a 3-burner gas range/oven on the starboard side, plenty of counter space and a GE microwave oven on a shelf at the aft end. Port side has additional counter space and a duel stainless steel sink.
This side galley configuration allows for food prep and cooking even in rough weather.
