Our research on this boat has revealed the following information :
"Syrinx" was built at the Berthon boatyard in Lymington UK in 1936. Probably around 1947 her rig was altered from a cutter with a short bowsprit to a sloop. At that stage she was based in the River Blackwater with regular voyages to Stavanger,Norway and Santander, Spain. She took part in several RORC races including the North Sea Race, Cowes Dinard and the Fastnet. In the 1970's she was sailed across the Atlantic, chartered 5 years in St Thomas, trucked to the San Fransisco area, sold several times and eventually ended here in Port Townsend.
Hull construction is 1 1/4" teak planking, teak frames , iron floor frames , 1 1/4" teak deck with fiberglass outer skin . An extensive range of parts/ fittings and equipment relating to "Syrinx" is in storage at our boatyard.
This boat clearly needs a major refit - there are links to similar restorations of three similar Gauntlets - "Heather", "Mitten" and "Ripple" .
